look closer
Experimental design - Can textile design make a political statement?
North Korea is an isolated country whose government decides which information the outside world receives about its interior and which image the country's population gets about the outside world.
With the help of experimental design and textile printing, I created a pattern that deals precisely with this theme.
Superficially, the pattern is pleasing to the eye.
If you look closer, you’ll see the design is composed of different elements. Images of monuments and government employees are depicted in abstract ink drawings and assembled into a pattern, which is then filled in with a distorted photograph of government employees. The textile design is an invitation to take a closer look and not to be dazzled by the illusion of beauty.
