big thumb
What are the limits of a repeat in manual screen printing?
(Anyone can do “simple”)
"big thumb" resembles a collection of fingerprints. The characteristics of a fingerprint are fine lines, and it symbolises individuality.
For the textile design, I created an ink drawing composed of fine textured lines and placed them in a repeat. My challenge: to place the repeat on the textile using manual screen printing in such a way that no connecting errors occur - particularly difficult, as the pattern is very detailed at the edges.
The additional optical effect created by offsetting the pattern in a second colour offers a further challenge for the repeat.
